Westmoor PTO Read-a-thon - October 23 – November 3, 2017

Register now to help our school! Go to http://pledgestar.com/westmoorschool

  • Enter your name and email address, then click Register
  • Follow the instructions on-screen
  • Add Tshirt size so we can order the correct size when donations reach $100

When you finish, you get notified each time a pledge is made, and you can track your pledge progress online.

If you have more than one child, a potential donor will receive the pledge request with all of the registered children on 1 email.  The donor can choose to pledge one amount to split among the kids or choose to input the amount themselves individually.

The goal at the bottom of the screen is NOT the read-a-thon financial goal – it is simply a tool to help raise funds and could fluctuate with each pledge received.

Call 1-888-598-7510 if you need technical help.

WHEN: Between Monday, October 23rd and Friday, November 3rd

INDIVIDUAL GOAL: 300 minutes total or 30 minutes/per day (excluding weekends)

200 minutes total for Kindergarteners or 20 minutes/per day (excluding weekends)

SCHOOLWIDE GOAL: 97,500 minutes!!!

Collect donations online – register your child  at http://pledgestar.com/westmoorschool

It takes just minutes to set up your child’s fundraising page to request pledges.  Use the Star Wars Sticker Chart to keep track of how many minutes they have read.

Or you may use the sample pledge form to keep track of your sponsors and donations manually.

What is the Read-a-thon?

The Read-a-thon will be our largest fundraiser of the year.  Participants will set a reading goal and will have the designated days above to reach their goal.  Participants get pledges from family, friends and neighbors to support their efforts.  Donors can either pledge a certain amount of money per minute read or make a flat donation.  Reading rules and Star Wars logging chart, prize flyers and a business sponsor recognition sheet are all included.

 How do I get pledges?

This can be done 1 of 2 ways:

  •  Preferred Method: Register your child at http://pledgestar.com/westmoorschool and follow the simple registration steps. It takes minutes to set up your child’s own fundraising page.  The online pledging system will automatically send requests, thank you emails and even a tax receipt to the family and friends that you choose!  - There is NO site service charge to the donor for pledges received through PledgeStar and your information is confidential and only used for purposes of the Westmoor Read-a-thon.
  • Track pledges manually by downloading the sample pledge request forms, sponsor thank you forms and pledge tracking forms from www.westmoorpto.com. Copies will also be available in the front office of Westmoor.  - Pledges will not be confirmed until after the Treasurer has received your check - this may impact participation in some of the prize categories.

Reading: We have a school wide goal to read 97,500 minutes!!!

Kindergarten students will need to read an average of 20 minutes per day, and Grades 1-5 students will need to read 30 minutes per day to complete the Star Wars sticker chart!

Each sticker represents 10 minutes of reading for Kindergarteners; for 1st-5th graders, each sticker represents 15 minutes of reading.  There are 20 boxes to fill for the 10 day period.  Half of the daily goal will be read during teacher approved school time; the other half (or more) will be read at home.

If your child ends up reading more than the allotted 20-30 minutes per day, simply write the total number of minutes directly on the chart itself.

What happens if we reach our reading goal?

There are many fun incentives to encourage 100% participation.  Please take a look at the prize flyers.  If we reach our school wide reading goal of 97,500 minutes, the PTO has committed to purchase new books for each classroom library. In addition, Principal Sturgill has committed to a Pajama Day / Movie Party for Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5.

 Why are we raising money?

Your support will go to enrich Westmoor Elementary School community through various PTO commitments.  These include the Art Fair, Artist in Residence, assemblies, Fall Bulldog Fest, End of Year Picnic, field trips, library books, playground and garden improvements, Science Fair, special purchases for the school and teachers such as IPads, teacher hospitality – With your student’s participation, the entire community  will benefit!
